New County Development Services Building Officially Opens in Florence

Smiles were planted across the faces of hundreds of County employees Wednesday morning as the ribbon was cut on the new Development Services Building in Florence.

The $13 million building, located on the Florence Administration Campus in Downtown Florence, replaces Building-F, where residents could previously access Development Services. Building-F, originally built in 1977 as jails for the Sheriff's office, is now in the process of being demolished.

The new 2-story building will house staff from Community Development, Public Works, Air Quality, and Open Space and Trails, who have been located in Building-F since 2000 - as well as staff from the Civil Division of the County Attorney's Office. Its bright and airy new lobby area is already open to the public from 8 am to 5 pm, Monday to Friday, for Development Service requests. At this time, appointments are required.

The new address is 85 North Florence Street, Florence, 85132. To book an appointment, please call 520-866-6442. For more information, visit www.pinalcountyaz.gov/CommunityDevelopment.

The building is one of three new County facilities to open in quick succession - last month, a complex opened for District 2 residents in San Tan Valley, while next week, a similar complex will open for District 4 residents in the City of Maricopa.

Chairman of the Board of Supervisors Stephen Miller commented on the new building, "I'm very happy with the new building. I've had a desire to have a new facility built for the employees that we had in the former building to create that environment of a good, safe and productive workspace. And if you follow the economics of today, we built this at the perfect time, before material prices have skyrocketed. So we're very fortunate to have moved on this when we did."

District 1 Supervisor Kevin Cavanaugh added, "This building is much better situated, the old building was hard to find, it was hard to find the entrance, it was hard to find a parking space. So this building is going to have ample parking, it's easy to access, and it gives the opportunity for folks to come in, lay out their plans, meet with staff, and have a good space to do it in. So it was really needed - as the County grows, we need a building like this."
