Commander John Meyer is pleased to announce that on Saturday, January 16, 2021 the American Legion Post 97 and the San Tan Valley Veteran Center will host a Flag Retirement Ceremony that will be held at 5764 East Hunt Highway, San Tan Valley, Arizona in the front of Veteran Center flagpoles starting at 11:00 a.m. The event is open to the patriotic Pinal County community to attend.
The purpose of The American Legion in adopting this ceremony was to encourage proper respect for the Flag of the United States and to provide for disposal of unserviceable flags in a dignified manner. Resolution No. 373, approved by the National Convention of The American Legion meeting in Chicago, Illinois, September 18-20, 1944, re-emphasized the purpose of proper public Flag disposal ceremonies and encouraged greater use of this ceremony by The American Legion.
If anyone has a flag that needs recycling, there is a flag collection point inside the San Tan Valley Veteran Center.
